Together, We’re Building What’s Next. Written by Dr. Theron Schutte

Every new school year brings its own distinct energy, but this year feels exceptional. There is a synergy throughout our district, a powerful momentum created when our community's shared vision meets the relentless dedication of our educators and the limitless potential of our students. We are not just opening our doors; we are stepping into a defining era for the Marshalltown Community School District (MCSD).

Over the past few years, incredible community support has transformed our district. The momentum from our 2024 bond referendum is now a reality unfolding before our eyes. As we watch the progress of the "Reimagine Miller" project and witness the historic reconstruction of Franklin Field, we are reminded of what makes Marshalltown special. We honor deep-rooted traditions while boldly investing in our children's future.

These modernized facilities are more than brick, turf, and mortar. They are collaborative spaces where synergy happens. They are where student-athletes will learn teamwork, where musicians and artists will find their voices, and where our classrooms will foster innovative, hands-on learning that prepares students for a rapidly changing world.

The synergy within our schools is directly tied to the synergy of our community's ongoing improvements. Our district's growth reflects Marshalltown's collective drive. As city leaders, local businesses, and active citizens work together to revitalize downtown, expand local parks, and drive economic development, that collaborative spirit spills over into our schools.

The improvements we see in our neighborhoods fuel the improvements in our classrooms. When the community invests in its infrastructure and quality of life, it elevates the environment our children grow up in. When Marshalltown thrives, our schools thrive, creating a unified cycle of progress and civic pride that benefits every single resident.

Synergy happens when the combined effect of a group is greater than the sum of its individual parts. As we enter the 2026-27 academic year and walk the halls this week, you will feel the excitement. You will see it in the freshly waxed floors, the prepared lesson plans, and in the faces of our students. We are poised to reach new heights and continue building a school culture where everyone feels they belong.

Let’s channel this excitement into our greatest year yet! Let’s continue to be forward-thinking, resilient, and united in our mission to provide a world-class education right here in Marshalltown, Iowa.

Let’s make it a fantastic year and go Bobcats!
